Here are couple of articles to get you started with the concept of place-building
- Knight Foundation Soul of The Community Report
- The Geography of Opportunity -Mapping to promote Equitable Community Development & fair housing in King County, WA
- Creative Placemaking
Please share your thoughts, ideas from the discussion!
The questions at the table discussion today were:
1. Think of a place or event in SKC that you would miss if you were to move away. What place-building elements make the space work?
2. What do you think South County communities stand to gain from place-building?
3. What sort of places do you or your organization have an impact on?
4. Since place-building is inter-disciplinary, what other disciplines do you think are most critical for building stronger places in South County?
If you didn’t get a chance to shout out your input at the table discussion…here is the place!
One of the table shared:
- They would miss the Auburn Symphony, the Renton and Auburn farmers markets.
- There is a need to leverage more business involvement. There are businesses who are interested to invest in communities.
1. Never start and end a meeting with “What you don’t have” – (contributes to the law of attraction)
2. Rally around a vision
3. Citizen journalist a great idea – folks in the neighborhood taking responsibility for the perception of their neighborhood
4. Exploration of ‘areas of disinvestment’
It was great to have the panel folks at each of our tables.
Well done – look forward to the next meeting on this
